Dr. Kelli Weaver is a board-certified small animal internal medicine specialist and founder of Gulfstream Veterinary Specialty Services, a mobile specialty service serving veterinary hospitals throughout the Tampa Bay area.

Dr. Weaver comes to Harbourside Animal Hospital on scheduled dates to perform advanced internal medicine diagnostics and specialty procedures. These services include abdominal and other diagnostic ultrasound examinations, echocardiography, endoscopy, image-guided sampling and biopsies, feeding-tube placement, joint taps, bone marrow sampling, and other advanced procedures when medically appropriate.

Dr. Weaver does not maintain regular office hours at Harbourside and does not provide stand-alone internal medicine consultation appointments.

Before Dr. Weaver's services can be scheduled, the pet must first be examined by a Harbourside veterinarian and established as a patient of our hospital. Our veterinarian will review the patient's medical history, evaluate the pet, and determine whether Dr. Weaver's specialty diagnostic services are appropriate.

This requirement applies even when a patient is being referred to Harbourside only for advanced testing and will return to their regular veterinarian or another hospital for continued treatment afterward.

Following Dr. Weaver's procedure, her diagnostic findings and specialist recommendations are generally communicated to the Harbourside veterinarian, who then discusses the results and recommended next steps with the owner.

Owners who specifically wish to consult directly with Dr. Weaver, or who wish to be present during an ultrasound or echocardiogram when appropriate, may request this as an additional service. An additional consultation fee applies.

Background & Training

 

Dr. Weaver earned her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine at Georgia Veterinary Specialists (GVS) in Atlanta, where she later served as Director of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Weaver then pursued and completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at Tufts University (Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine) in Boston, receiving research recognition in diabetes mellitus. After relocating to Florida, she practiced internal medicine for 17 years at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists (Largo) and subsequently at Clearwater Animal Referral & Emergency. To make specialty care easier to access, she founded Gulfstream Veterinary Specialty Services, a mobile internal medicine service for the Tampa Bay region.

Dr. Weaver's extensive internal medicine training allows her to provide advanced diagnostic interpretation and specialist recommendations in complex medical cases. The conditions listed below represent areas of her professional expertise and should not be interpreted as stand-alone consultation services available at Harbourside Animal Hospital.

  • Endocrinology: diabetes mellitus, Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism), Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism), thyroid disorders, calcium/parathyroid disorders
  • Immune-Mediated Disease: IMHA, ITP, polyarthritis, immune-mediated hepatitis
  • Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary: chronic enteropathy/IBD, pancreatitis, cholestasis, hepatic enzyme elevations
  • Respiratory & Urinary: chronic cough, lower airway disease, urinary tract disorders, proteinuria evaluation
  • Advanced Diagnostics: case-appropriate abdominal ultrasound and echocardiography (by schedule), minimally invasive sampling, and stepwise management plans

Community Service

Dr. Weaver serves on the Board of the Humane Society of Pinellas County and supports initiatives that assist pets of individuals experiencing homelessness.
